It has been a full year of having the fear of COVID-19 hanging on our heads. We can confidently say that every single person on Earth has felt its impact; the general economy has suffered, frontliners are beyond exhausted, students are deprived of character-building interaction with educators and friends, and family members are separated from one another.
But times like these are also when we can prove ourselves, like it has always been in times of global anguish. Historical records have proven that mankind has gone through and survived dozens of pandemics – centuries before PPEs, rapid testing kits or negative pressure rooms were ever conceived.
As we celebrate the Lunar New Year and welcome the Year of the Ox, we take some inspiration from the animal itself – strong, dedicated, and dependable. Those are the exact qualities suitable for the times we face ahead. However, there is a good reason to be even more positive now.
The light at the end of the tunnel is stronger than it has ever been since the pandemic started. Vaccine roll-out is actively happening in numerous countries, with Malaysia’s own mass vaccination program right on track. What we need to do – as most, if not all, have been doing the past year – is continue with the suggested health protocols and help to keep the economy running in whatever best way we can.
Happy Chinese New Year. May you and your family be blessed with health, wealth, happiness and success.
Keep safe.
